Tesla PCBA 2049904-00-B includes four components: CUP, INS, RET and WSHR. Standard SMT process solders main electronic components on PCB first. These four parts are assembled after reflow instead of going through the reflow oven. CUP works for terminal holding and electrical contact. INS acts as insulation to avoid short circuit. RET retains all components against vehicle vibration. WSHR distributes assembly pressure to protect PCB. These tiny irregular parts can be supplied in custom carrier tape & reel for automatic post-reflow pick-and-place assembly, eliminating manual assembly. The carrier tape must fix part orientation and prevent shifting, complying with automotive ESD and high consistency requirements.
Problem:
Customer needs a carrier tape design to stop the component from rotating within the pocket. This Tesla part is very complex. Our engineering team evaluated positioning and locking structures to hold the part securely, while verifying viable carrier tape manufacturing, good forming and pocket strength. Following a 30-minute discussion, we confirmed the solution and loaded parts into the carrier tape for the customer’s direct visual reference.
Solution:
With a specialized and professional geographic design, the pockets are meticulously crafted to securely hold the components without any movement. We always place parts into the pockets, allowing customers to clearly see the orientation of each part and understand how the carrier tape functions.
