Sumitomo Chemical recently announced its acquisition of Asia United Electronic Chemicals Co., Ltd. (AUECC), a Taiwanese semiconductor process chemicals company. This acquisition will enable Sumitomo Chemical to strengthen its global footprint and establish its first semiconductor process chemicals manufacturing base in Taiwan, while also establishing a second manufacturing base in the United States (in conjunction with its plant in Texas).
Sumitomo Group has not yet disclosed the financial terms of the transaction.
The agreement also lays the foundation for Sumitomo Chemical to achieve its goal of doubling its sales by fiscal year 2030 compared to fiscal year 2024.
This move marks a significant step forward for Sumitomo Chemical in deepening its global presence in the semiconductor industry. This strategic initiative not only allows Sumitomo Chemical to expand its product line of semiconductor-related chemicals but also enhances its competitiveness in this rapidly growing, technology-driven industry. According to Chemanalyst, this acquisition aligns with Sumitomo Chemical's long-term vision of becoming a leading solutions provider for next-generation semiconductor manufacturing.
Through this acquisition, Sumitomo Chemical has integrated AUECC's extensive sales and procurement network, thereby enhancing its market influence in Asia and beyond. Furthermore, AUECC's expertise in flexible packaging and its rich product portfolio will bring significant synergies. Combining these strengths with its own resources, Sumitomo Chemical will be able to provide more efficient and reliable supply services to global semiconductor manufacturers.
Furthermore, the company aims to leverage AUECC's established operational infrastructure to strengthen its global supply chain. This integration will help build a more resilient and responsive supply framework—a factor that is becoming increasingly critical as demand for semiconductors continues to surge in industries such as electronics, automotive, and renewable energy. This move also aligns with Sumitomo Chemical's strategy to mitigate supply risks and ensure consistent product quality across all regions.
